10-Day Introductory Science Workshop at Kopan Nunnery

(April 24 to May 4)

A 10-day intensive introductory workshop on the science of life reached 40 scholarly nuns, all philosophy students at Kopan Nunnery. The purpose of the workshop was to help introduce basic principles of science and how it can help us understand nature. Many of the daily activities gave nuns an opportunity to explore scientific practices and processes and the experience of conducting investigations together. These skills were used to do activities that explored what life is, how the human body works, and how life interacts with the physical systems in our universe. The workshop was taught by Tory Brady and Julie Yu from the Exploratorium Teacher Institute in San Francisco. Kopan Nunnery is located in Kathmandu and with more than 400 nuns is the largest nunnery in Nepal.
