Perception and Reality – a dialogue between Buddhist and Scientific Scholars

Cosmology and Consciousness viii

(29 – 30 October, 2023)

Sikyong Hall, Dharamsala

The two-day international conference on Perception and Reality was organised by LTWA in collaboration with SFMN, with funding from the Sager Family Foundation and the John Templeton Foundation.

Perception and reality have been a central theme in Buddhism, science, and many other philosophical traditions. This conference aims to delve into the complex interplay between these concepts, drawing insights from the fields of quantum physics, neuroscience, and the profound wisdom of the Buddhist tradition, particularly the concept of interdependence and two truths. We aim to bring together experts and practitioners from diverse backgrounds to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue that can shed light on the intricate nature of perception and reality.

The two-day conference was held in the Sikyong Hall of the Central Tibetan Administration from October 29 to October 30, 2023. The event was facilitated by Tibetan Buddhist scholars, Western scientists, and Indian philosophers. They had a rigorous discussion on perception and reality from their perspectives that aligned with their field of expertise and deep understanding.

The event was graced by former Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche as a chief guest, and the Kalon of Education Department of CTA, Tharlam Dolma as a special guest also attended the inauguration of the conference on October 29, 2023. The two-day conference was attended by over 300 people from various walks of life, including senior monks, nuns, educators, students, and westerners.
